Stratford University formally announced the hiring of Al Cousineau, as the Director and Head Coach for their Woman's Soccer Program which will begin play Fall 2017.
The Stratford University Cardinals will be kicking off their program playing in the National Junior College Athletic Association Region 10.
Chris Sawyer, Campus Director/ Athletics Director of Stratford University believes that having a competitive athletic program is part of the expanding student experience. "Many people don't realize we are a complete University offering a wide range of Bachelors, Masters and PHDs programs, while also offering a two plus two experience similar to what students find at local state community colleges. However, we are excited to bring athletics to our students as we continue to grow. Additionally, now local student athletes will have the opportunity to play college sports without having to go out of town or move out of the peninsula or dealing with a large university setting. The team can consist of any players from their local Hampton Roads Campuses, so I am confident with the number of high school girls playing soccer, in the greater Hampton Roads we will have a deep player pool and we should be highly competitive"
"I am very excited to be part of the Collegiate Soccer Community in Hampton Roads, I believe the Stratford University program will be a great way for high level high school players to continue their soccer playing careers as they work toward a meaningful degree at Stratford University. I am looking forward to building the program into a National Competitor. I am going to be actively recruiting players during the next few months and hope others reach out and contact me directly if they would like to be considered for the team." My contact information at the University is 757-873-4235.
