On Monday 10/16/17, the Stratford University Women's Soccer team traveled to Martinsville, VA to take on Patrick Henry Community College. The game was played under the lights at the Smith River Athletic Complex. The Lady Cardinals came out ready to play as their defense denied the Patriots any scoring opportunities. In the 7th minute of the game, Freshman Sidney Tredway had an opportunity to put Stratford up 1-0 but hit the ball just over the cross bar. The score remained 0-0 until Patrick Henry capitalized on a scoring opportunity to put them up 1-0. That is how the first half ended. At the beginning of the Second half, Stratford countinued to to play strong defense and had a few break away scoring opportunities. However, Patrick Henry was able to score 2 more goals to make it a 3-0 final. Freshman Goalie, Makayla Price, continued her stellar play in the goal as she finished the game with 18 saves. Janay Pyron, Sidney Tredway and Diadra Hill were able to showcase their speed and create scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, the ball would not go in the back of the net. Freshman Kayla Powell had a breakout game as she played both defense and offense and kept the Lady Cardinals in the game. There are 2 more games left in the season and they will both be played at Stratford's home field, Kiln Creek Park. On Sunday 10/22/17, Stratford will have a rematch with Patrick Henry at 2:00pm. This game will be a Pink Out game in support of the fight against Breast Cancer. The Lady Cardinals conclude their first season on Monday 10/23/17 against the #6 team in the country, Florida National University.
