Basketball Prepares to Open the Season in New York

The Stratford University Men's Basketball Team is preparing to open their first ever season this Friday 11/3/17 in New York.  The Cardinals will play 3 games this weekend in New York, with the first against the defending USCAA National Champion, Berkeley College.  The game will be played at 8:00pm at the College of New Rochelle.  On Saturday 11/4/17, Stratford travels to Delhi, New York to take on SUNY-Delhi at 3:00pm and completes the weekend on Sunday 11/5/17 against Five Towns College in Dix, New York at 1:00pm.  Coach Frank Chatman and the Cardinals have been preparing for their inaugural season for the past few weeks and have had strong showings in their 2 pre-season scrimmages.  On Monday 10/23/17, the Cardinals traveled to NCAA Div II Chowan University in Murfreesboro, NC.  The scrimmage was comprised of six 10 minute periods.  At the end of last period, Freshman Kendall Shepherd hit a 3 pointer at the buzzer to tie Chowan.  The Cardinals won 4 of the periods, lost 1 and tied 1.  On Monday, 10/30/17, the Cardinals traveled to NCAA Div II member, Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.  The Trojans are the pre-season pick to win the CIAA.  This game consisted of three 20 minute periods.  At the end of the third period, the Trojans came away with a 55-48 victory.  In its two scrimmages, Stratford has shown that they have the talent to be successful in the USCAA.  The Cardinals first home game will be 11/15/17 at 7:00pm against Blue Lights College.  All home games will be played at Heritage High School in Newport News, VA.
