The Stratford University men's basketball team played the basketball version on Friday Night Lights, as they hosted NAIA member Truitt McConnell at the Julius Conn Rec Center, pulling away for a 77-72 victory. In a game that was back and forth all night, with neither team leading by more than six points and a game that saw eleven ties and eighteen lead changes, the Cardinals earned the victory by forcing fourteen Bear turnovers and owning a 38-28 advantage on the boards.
Ronald Davis led the Cardinals with 19 points, while DeAndre Demiel added 16 points, 3 steals and 9 assists and Jamonte Ricks had a game high 11 rebounds. Stratford held Truitt McConnell to 43% from the field and their bench outscored the Bears 30-16.
Stratford held a 34-32 advantage at the half and neither team could break away and take control of the game until the Demiel and Chris Reid knocked down four free throws in the last thirteen seconds of the game.
Stratford improves to 8-1 on the year and hosts Berkeley College on Sunday afternoon, tipoff is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
